Anchor Club will meet the second Wednesday of each month, except in March, which will be the third Wednesday due to Spring Break.

New officer and committee enrollment is also going on. If you would like to run for an Anchor Club officer position or volunteer for a committee, please see Mrs. Martin. Campaigning for officer positions will be Tuesday, September 9, and Wednesday, September 10. Campaign posters will be displayed in Vaughn Hall both days, and removed on Thursday, September 11, 2009. First Anchor Club meeting and election of officers, will be Wednesday, September 10 from 3:10-4:30 pm in the auditorium. Candidates will be asked to make a short campaign speech for their office and balloting will follow. Our program this month will be presented by Mrs. Christa Drewry. She will be talking about the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the upcoming CF Great Strides Walk on Saturday, September 27, 8:00 a.m., at Bergfield Park. The Anchor Club will be participating in this walk and fundraiser. ASES Primer student, Maci Drewry, will be the poster child for our school.

Parents are encouraged to attend Anchor meetings, help with outside activities, and provide monthly refreshments for the meetings. Members receive points for their participation in meetings, fundraisers, and for parent participation.

Minutes of Last Meeting:

Outstanding Fifth Grade Anchor members were honored. Our program was presented by Mrs. Jill Smith and her brother Mr. Jack Hightower. Mr. Hightower gave a very informative program of the importance of helmet safety to prevent brain injury. He spoke of his daughter's injury while riding on a motorcycle with her boyfriend and showed a power point presentation.

In May, the Anchor Club traveled to Chuck E Cheese Pizza for our end of year party. Pizza and games were enjoyed by all who attended.

About Anchor Club:
Anchor Club is the youth division of Pilot Club International. Membership in an Anchor Club allows young people to make a dynamic difference in their world through volunteer service...and have FUN while helping others. Anchors learn valuable skills that prepare them to be good citizens for the rest of their lives. They have opportunities to lead and organize service projects and play active roles in club programs. Often they work side by side with their sponsoring Pilot Clubs to promote awareness and provide hands on service to people with Brain-Related Disorders.
Since Pilot International was chartered in 1921, Pilot Clubs have undertaken service projects involving young people and their needs. In 1952, Pilot adopted the program of sponsoring Anchor Clubs. Anchor is now 50 years old and is made up of over 10,000 members.
Anchor Clubs can be found throughout the United States, Bahamas, Japan and Argentina. Anchor Clubs take many forms - some are affiliated with schools; some are not. Some are all female; some are coed. Some are large; some are small. Some clubs in the US are in organized Anchor Districts.
Anchor members discover the importance of working together--no single member can accomplish the service that the members can as a team.
Our 5th & 6th chapter was the first ever Anchor Club chartered for elementary age children in the Texas District of Pilot Clubs. Most of the clubs are high school level. After the Lower School Anchor Club was chartered in November 2005, the ASES Middle School Anchor Chapter was chartered in January 2006.
