Upper School Artists Receive Recognition

At the Tyler Museum of Art’s 8th Annual High School Art Exhibition, 14 All Saints students received honors. Only five Merit Awards are given, and Heather P., All Saints senior, received one of them for her work, “Mark Shami,” a mixed media 2-D piece. As people visited the museum, they had the opportunity to vote for their favorite pieces. Two All Saints students, Anna C. and Elena C., received “People’s Choice” awards for their works, “Colorful Rain,” mixed media, and “Afghan Man,” colored pencil, respectively. The exhibit will run from April 10 to 27.

Sisters

At the VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) competition in February , one All Saints student was chosen to advance to the State VASE Competition. This was Cloyee’ J. with her 3-D work, “Sisters.” This piece traveled to the state competition in Bryan, Texas, and received a rating of IV, the most superior of ratings. Cloyee’ will receive her medal at the Fine Arts Banquet.

ISAS Fine Arts Festival

http://www.facebook.com/AllSaintsISAS

In March, over 3,200 students and faculty from 37 schools across the southwest will board busses for Greenhill School in Addison, TX. Students will spend three days at Greenhill immersed in events celebrating the performing and visual arts.

Twenty-nine All Saints Episcopal School students and faculty will join the over 3,000 other students to participate in the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) Arts Festival. This annual event is hosted by an independent school from one of six states that send their accomplished performing and visual arts students to perform theatre, dance and musical pieces and to display their visual arts. Students are on campus from early morning until late evening, engaged in workshops, critiques and social events, when not performing or socializing with new acquaintances with shared interests and talents.

ISAS Fine Arts

From March 29 to 31, Greenhill School will host this extraordinary event. For three days their campus will come alive with the creative energy of orchestras, bands, jazz bands, choirs, vocal and instrumental solos, drama, musicals, dance, photography, 2D and 3D art. Students will have the opportunity to attend workshops, plays, and concerts and to have their pieces critiqued by professional artists and musicians in a one on one setting.

District TAPPS Results

Congratulations to our Fine Arts Department for terrific results at last week’s District TAPPS contests. Students had a grueling week of contest taking them from Tyler to Waco to Dallas. In all they performed superbly and made us proud.

All Saints Theater students competed in Dallas on February 27 and 28. Three of our actors, Lauren F., Zane L., and Carter S., will advance to the State TAPPS contest in Austin at the end of this month. Congratulations to:

  • Lauren F. – 4th place in Solo Acting
  • Lexie R. – 5th place in Solo Acting
  • Zane L. and Lauren F. – 6th place in Duet Acting
  • Zane L. – 2nd place in Prose
  • Carter S. – 2nd place in Poetry

Our jazz band and choir students competed on Thursday, March 1, here in Tyler. These groups had to perform a concert for a panel of judges in hopes of earning a high enough rating to advance to state. The jazz band played two pieces, “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” and “Watermelon Man” by Herbie Hancock, and the choir sang three, a German piece by Schubert, a Hebrew folk song, and an African American Spiritual. The choir then was given the added challenge of sight-reading a new piece. Both ensembles earned top ratings of “Superior” and will advance to the state contest in April in Belton, TX.

On Friday, our talented artists competed in Waco at the District TAPPS contest. Mrs. Piwonka, Mrs. Smith, and several students worked hard during the first hour to set up an amazing gallery of work for the judges to view. In the end, our art studio won 1st place in District and several students (those ranking 1st through 4th place) will have pieces advance to the state TAPPS contest at the end of this month.
