  • Music Class

    Lower School students explore the world of sound through weekly music classes that implement Kodaly and Orff-Schulwerk methods and are led to explore rhythm, pulse, movement, instruments, singing, and music history. In addition, during the school year, all Lower School students are able to stretch their musical talents and performance skills on the stage in our annual Grandfriends Day program and grade-level music programs.

  • Fifth Grade Fine Arts Exploration

    Fifth Grade students will have the opportunity to explore three areas of the visual & performing arts during their first year in middle school.  Time will be spent in art, band, & choir on a rotating basis.  In art, students will incorporate a variety of two- and three-dimensional concepts and ideas in art and processes to influence personal artistic decisions and create visual unity. In band, students will start the process of learning instruments, exploring three instrument families: woodwind, brass, & percussion. In choir, students will be acquainted with quality children’s repertoire for performance and the fundamentals of vocal technique, harmony, and music literacy.
  • Sixth Grade Band

    The 6th Grade Band members begin the process of mastering skills on their instruments through a focus on posture, breathing, and good sound production.  The students will prepare musical selections for public performance while learning musical fundamentals and vocabulary for their musical experiences.
  • Sixth Grade Choir

    Sixth grade choir students will continue to learn good vocal production for young people and music theory as it relates to the literature being learned.  Sight-reading curriculum that utilizes the Kodaly method is continued in choir and two part singing is introduced.  Students will sing and perform a variety of music styles including folk, classical, pop, Broadway, jazz, and spirituals. This class meets daily for 40 minutes.

  • Band

    The Middle School Band members will develop skills on their instruments through a continued focus on posture, tuning, blend, and good sound production.  The students will prepare musical selections for chapel, competitions, football games, pep rallies, and other school functions while shoring up musical fundamentals and vocabulary. Furthermore, Middle School Band students are involved in competing in various state organizations: ATSSB All-Region & All-State, TPSMEA Honor Band, TPSMEA Concert & Sight-Reading, and TPSMEA Solo & Ensembl
  • Choir

    Middle school choir students continue their musical development while learning more about how music is written and its interpretation through daily theory and sight-reading lessons utilizing the Kodaly system of solfege.  The middle school choir students will be involved in 3 performances through the course of the school year.  Additionally, the choir is also involved in TMEA vocal competitions including All-Region Choir and Solo & Ensemble Contests.
  • Theater

    Middle School theater students will begin their theater careers, solidifying their knowledge of theater terminology and honing their acting skills. In addition to their stage work, students will explore dramatic structure as it applies to scene study, explore the different methods of acting, and take an in-depth look at Technical Theatre or Stage Makeup, depending on the year. This class produces three separate public performances throughout the school year.

  • Band

    The Upper School Band members will further develop skills on their instruments through a continued focus on tuning, balance, blend, and good sound production.  The students will prepare musical selections for chapel, competitions, football games, pep rallies, and other school functions while shoring up musical fundamentals and vocabulary. Furthermore, Upper School Band students are involved in competing in various state organizations: ATSSB All-Region & All-State, TAPPS Concert & Sight-Reading, TAPPS Field Band Championships, TAPPS Solo & Ensemble, TPSMEA All-State, and TPSMEA Solo & Ensemble
  • Choir

    Upper School singers will continue their daily study of rhythm, sight-singing, and music theory and explore two to four-part singing in languages other than English. In addition, throughout the school year, the Upper School Choir will perform in three seasonal public concerts, monthly School Chapel services, and other various campus events. The Upper School Choir members have the option to audition for TMEA or TPSMEA All-Region and All-State choirs and will compete in TAPPS Concert and Sight Reading Contests.
  • Drumline

    The Drumline is an auditioned group of 8th-grade through 12th-grade members. The members develop skills on their percussion instruments, focusing on balance, blend, and good sound production. The Drumline prepares musical selections for competitions, football games, pep rallies, and other school functions.  Furthermore, Drumline students compete in various state organizations: TAPPS Field Band Championships, TAPPS Drumline Championships, TAPPS Solo & Ensemble, and TPSMEA Solo & Ensemble.
  • Theater

    This course allows students to explore different aspects of theater and performance in a fun and safe environment, including instruction in technical and competition theater. Emphasis will be on learning and perfecting the basics of acting and production work while exploring auxiliary areas such as improvisation, playwriting, and theater history. Students in this class will work both to develop their talent and to work effectively and creatively in collaboration with others. Students are involved in showcases throughout the school year and must compete in TAPPS One Act Play and TAPPS Speech contests.
